The first thing that I learned was who the founder of the Islamic religion was. This person, called a prophet, was named Muhammad. Muhammad was born in the year 570AD. He insisted that he was not holy just one of Allah's messengers. I bet your wondering who Allah is, he is the god that Muhammad preached about. The first year in the Islamic calender is 622 AD. So who are the religious leaders in this religion? Well, every clan has their own leader. Sort of like Christianity, they have a different pastor for every church. That brings me to my next point, the place of worship. Their house of worship is called either a shrine or a mosque. Where the religion began is also very interesting topic. Islam began on the Arabian Peninsula in Mecca and Medina. Today Islam is practiced in mostly Africa, the Middle East, and Asia. So now we now that the religion is monotheistic {believing in one god}, but what are the beliefs in this religion? There are two main rule sets in this religion. The first one is called the Six Articles of Faith and the second is called the Five Pillars of Faith. Each gives a set of rules for the way of life that each Islamic person should live. Allah, the god of Islam, looks very interesting. First, he looks like a regular man at first glance. But he has a lot of jewelry and gold all over. Also Allah has hugh long ears, the Islamic people say that that is because he needs to hear all the cries of his people. Previously I related Islam to Christianity, and another way that the two religions are the same is that they have sacred writings like the Bible. In Islam their writings are are all in a book called The Koran. In the Koran there are stories of the god Allah and examples of his wonderful works. As in other religions there are many things that Islamic people must practice. One of them is the rules written in the Pillars of Faith. People honor Allah by fasting, taking a pilgrimage and they give to charities. One of the times that they must fast for is the month of Ramadan. Every year they are supposed to make the Hajj or the pilgrimage to Mecca, this takes place in the 12th month of the year for them. Lastly, the sign of the Islamic religion is the The Star and The Creset Moon, this is also the symbol of Allah. This represents the way that Central Asia and Siberia worshiped the sun, moon and other sky gods. I hope you learned a lot about Islam. Don't forget to check out the other religions! Thanks!
